There has been chatter since the Super Bowl that Celek might retire rather than play a 12th NFL season in 2018. Adam Caplan of ESPN reported on Tuesday that Celek would continue playing and Celek confirmed it to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer a short time later.

Celek has a $4 million salary and a Authentic Miguel Montero Jersey $5 million cap charge for the 2018 season. The Eagles would get $4 million of that cap space back if they decide to release Celek.

The big-bodied defensive tackle was considered a mercenary when he signed with Miami in 2014 for an extraordinary $19 million per year over six seasons, and he desired to embark on an old-school free-agency tour this time around to build up his market, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Would Suh be willing to sacrifice dollars for a chance to make up the greatest defensive-tackle pairing in NFL history (For what it’s worth, pairing him with Jurrell Casey in Tennessee would prove equally disastrous for opposing offensive lines.)

The ball is now in Suh’s court (end zone ). The last big domino to fall in free agency, Suh could be the difference maker for one of three teams hoping to return to the postseason in 2018.

The deal will save the Eagles a good chunk of money and it also appeared to give them insurance against the departure of Patrick Robinson. The veteran corner played on a one-year deal in 2017, so the Eagles faced the prospect of losing him this offseason but they are reportedly working to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the team is working to re-sign Robinson and that the expectation is that they will get something done before the legal tampering window opens. The Eagles will likely have to do some maneuvering elsewhere before that becomes official as they’re currently over the $177.2 million salary cap for the 2018 season, but the Smith trade and expected departure of defensive end Vinny Curry will help on that front.

Robinson had 47 tackles, four interceptions and a sack in the regular season and returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game. Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas and 2017 second-round pick Sidney Jones are also on hand at corner in Philadelphia.

The wideout understands he was added with the direct goal of buffering Trubisky.
